Tin of Wonders

This is a tin filled with objects that I think symbolize Maus.

The first is the brown thing. (It is actually a chip.) It symbolizes hunger and starvation. In the book Maus Art's dad talks about how hungry everyone was.

The second is the nickle. The nickle represents how poor everyone was and how the little things we have today were treasured back then.

The third thing is the chain. (You can't really see it but it is in between the dirt and chip.) The chain represents the Jews being forced or tied to their future. They didn't really have a choice to where they would go or how much they ate.

The fourth thing is the broken or ripped heart. It symbolizes how families got separated and one or more members died.  Most of the people who survived the Holocaust lost many family members.

The fifth thing is the dirt. The dirt symbolizes how everything was unclean. The way the Nazis treated the Jews was unfair and sly. In addition, people got very sick because if one person in the bedroom got a cold and another person got a fever, one person would get them both and pass it on.

The last thing is the tin. The tin symbolizes jail. The Jews never knew when the war would end or when they would be able to see their families again. They were suck in concentration camps with no way to escape.

The Families

This is my movie. It represents what the Holocaust was like, and three different types of families that experienced it. The first family has no remaining members, they have all died (Dead Bodies). The second family is where half of the members are alive, (Half Remaining). The last, everyone remains, (Full). The lizards play the Jews and the rubber duckies play the Nazis.
Enjoy :)

Death, Tears

Death, Tears
Wailing cries surround my weak body
Anger, Hate
They threw death upon our home
Sickness, Pain
The breath of death clings to anyone weak enough
Weak, Faint
Hunger leaves you lifeless

DEATH, TEARS

What happened in the Holocaust?

Adolf Hitler decided that he wanted to get rid of all the people and who weren't like him. All of the Jews that lived freely were then put under the Nazi's control. Most of the Jews went into hiding. It was like a never ending game of hide and seek. If you were found you were most likely put into a concentration camp. That is where Art's father, Valdeck, found himself. He was one of the lucky few to survive.

The Holocaust PP

Here is a power point about the Holocaust. It shows the different aspects of it and it has a poem mixed in. It relates to the book because Art's dad is telling his story, which includes what he ate, where he slept, and so on.
