Death, Tears

Death, Tears
Wailing cries surround my weak body
Anger, Hate
They threw death upon our home
Sickness, Pain
The breath of death clings to anyone weak enough
Weak, Faint
Hunger leaves you lifeless

DEATH, TEARS

Holocaust Facts

The Holocaust was a very tragic event. Approximately 6 million Jews were murdered. The word Holocaust come from the Greek origin "sacrifice by fire". The Nazis came to Germany in 1933 and the Jewish population was standing at over 9 million. It was called World War II. The war eventually ended on May 8, 1945.

What happened in the Holocaust?

Adolf Hitler decided that he wanted to get rid of all the people and who weren't like him. All of the Jews that lived freely were then put under the Nazi's control. Most of the Jews went into hiding. It was like a never ending game of hide and seek. If you were found you were most likely put into a concentration camp. That is where Art's father, Valdeck, found himself. He was one of the lucky few to survive.

Memories of the book

The Holocaust is known to all of us in some manner. We might know someone who survived this terrible event in history, or one who has learned about it in school, either way, everyone has had some kind of knowledge about the horrible things that the Nazi party did to the European Jews during the Holocaust. The Holocaust took a great toll on many lives in one way or another, one in particular being Vladek Spiegleman.  His  personality dramatically changed due to his experiences during World War II.  Vladek’s personality is so dynamic and it was the experiences that he made during the Holocaust that changed him.  In the beginning of the graphic novel Maus the reader is thrown into a scenario of the Author, Art, with many visits to his father's. Art and his father, Vladek start a conversation about Vladek's past, but Vladek is very stubborn about discussing his past with anyone. Vladek seems to be an old man who is afraid of two major things. The main fear he has taping into his memories only to relive the pain he suffered and because of this Vladek has a fear of getting too close to anyone. He thinks that he will be treated the same way that he was before by many Germans and even his own friends.

My Drawing of Maus.

My Never-Ending Game Of Hide and Seek

From the perspective of Valdek from Maus.

pant, pant, I gasp for air as I run for safety.
There! I saw it. The perfect hiding place. I look back to see if the Nazi is still following me.
He's talking to a baker and the baker points in my direction. I grab my wife and leap down into the basement.
Its cold. Its wet. We can hear the rats running around the ground. 3 days we wait.
FInally, I look up. The light pours onto my face, the sweet smells from the bakery fill my nose. Oh, how I've missed this. I leap up and look around. No one.
I tell my wife and we rush across the road and then duck behind a building.
A kind passerby tells us to get in his wagon and he will take us to his house where he has other Jews hiding.
Grateful and desperate for help we agree and climb in.
Here we go, hiding again, waiting in fear for someone to find us.

The Holocaust PP

Here is a power point about the Holocaust. It shows the different aspects of it and it has a poem mixed in. It relates to the book because Art's dad is telling his story, which includes what he ate, where he slept, and so on.

Fort Minor

This song reminds us we all have to be aware, "just take it all in" take a look at other people's situations, and appreciate what you have, even if it's small, cause it could all be gone.

The Holocaust

The Holocaust, what is the true depth of these words?

As sad as it may seem, it affected the lives of millions because of the hate inside of one group of people, the Nazi’s. They killed them because of qualities such as individuality or compassion. Victims of the Holocaust went through a very terrible and depressing time something none of us could imagine. Many victims of the Holocaust suffered from various events which eventually led to the death. Some of the experiments were things like: sun lamp, internal irrigation, hot bath, warming by body heat, freezing/hypothermia, etc.
